Dr. Sofía Martínez Alberga is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at ITAM with research in the area of algebraic topology. Originally from southern California, she earned her Bachelor’s of Science in mathematics from the University of California, Riverside in 2019 and that same year she won the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and the Math Alliance Fellowship. Dr. Martínez Alberga earned her MS and PhD from Purdue University with funding from the Bilsland Dissertation Fellowship. During graduate school, she held roles like MSRI-Undergraduate Program graduate research

assistant, Enhancing Diversity Graduate Education (EDGE) summer program graduate mentor, and Women In Science Programs (WISP) Liaison. After graduating she was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Stonehill College and Researcher Associate at Bryn Mawr College. Furthermore Dr. Martínez Alberga has been invited to attend and speak at conferences and seminars internationally and has organized and secured grants for sessions at major conferences such as the Joint Mathematics Meetings.
