Harry Oviedo

Full time professor

Harry Oviedo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematical Sciences (with honors) from the Universidad Centroccidental Lisandro Alvarado (UCLA, Venezuela). He earned both his M.Sc. in Computer Science with a specialization in Industrial Mathematics and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Center for Research in Mathematics (CIMAT, Mexico).

Prior to joining ITAM, he conducted teaching and research as a postdoctoral fellow and assistant professor at the School of Applied Mathematics at Fundacão Getulio Vargas (FGV, Brazil) from 2021 to 2022. In addition, he was an assistant professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Sciences at Universidad Adolfo Ib´a˜nez (UAI, Chile) between 2022 and 2026.

To date, he has published more than 30 scientific articles, including two book chapters in the areas of pattern recognition and artificial intelligence. His research focuses on the theoretical and applied study of numerical optimization, Riemannian optimization, numerical analysis and data science.
