Ana Belén Avilez

Full time professor

Ana Belén Avilez García holds a bachelor degree in Mathematics from the Faculty of Sciences at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). She received her Ph.D. from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in 2023, where she specialized in point-free topology. After completing her doctoral studies, she continued her academic and research career as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa. She subsequently held a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at Chapman University in Orange, California.

Her research focuses primarily on point-free topology, a generalization of classical topology in which spaces are studied through algebraic structures without direct reference to their points. This area is closely connected to general topology, algebra (particularly lattice theory), category theory, and logic. Her research interests include problems and collaborations in these and related areas.

She has participated in several international conferences and has served on the organizing committees of various academic events. Since August 2026, she has been a full-time faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).
