Laura Battagliola

Full time professor

I am an Assistant Professor C (Tenure Track) in the Department of Statistics at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) since August 2024. I earned my Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Copenhagen in 2021 under the supervision of Prof. Helle Sørensen, Assoc. Prof. Anders Tolver, and Prof. Ana‐Maria Staicu from North Carolina State University. During my doctoral studies, I had the opportunity to conduct research visits at Columbia University, working with Prof. Todd Ogden, and at North Carolina State University, under the supervision of Prof. Staicu.

Prior to my Ph.D., I completed my M.Sc. in Mathematical Engineering with a specialization in Applied Statistics at the Politecnico di Milano, and my B.Sc. in Mathematical Engineering at the same institution. Following my doctoral degree, I undertook a postdoctoral position at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) from October 2021 to May 2024 under the supervision of Prof. Sofia Olhede.

My research interests include functional data analysis and space and space‐time random fields, with a particular focus on applying these methodologies to environmental data. My work aims to develop advanced statistical techniques to better understand and address complex environmental challenges.
