Magali Folch has a B.S. in Mathematics (1992) from Facultad de Ciencas, UNAM, where her marks earned her the Gabino Barreda Medal for the highest GPA of her class. She holds  M.S. (1994) and PhD (1998) degrees in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she was supervised by Prof. Steve Wainger. In 1998 she returned to Mexico as Investigador Asociado C at Instituto de Matemáticas at UNAM, where she is now Investigador Titular B. She specializes in harmonic analysis, and in particular integral transforms, and has been a visiting professor at the University of Edinburgh, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and Universidad de Colima. She has coordinated the  analysis section in the Mathematics graduate program, and regularly teaches at the undergraduate (Facultad de Ciencias-UNAM) and graduate level in analysis and calculus. She is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores, level 2. In 2019 she is on sabbatical leave at ITAM.
