Agustín Basave is a Mexican political scientist, writer and journalist, and previously also a politician and a diplomat. He was a “Distinguished Academic” and Dean of Graduate Studies at the Iberoamericana University in Mexico City, and has been professor of Political Science at the National University of Mexico (UNAM), and Dean of the Department of Political Science at Tecnológico de Monterrey. He is currently a full-time professor of the Department of Political Science at Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México. Agustín has published seven books, including México Mestizo (1992, 2012); Nationalism (2006), Mexicanidad & Esquizofrenia (2010, 2011), and La cuarta socialdemocracia (2015). He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Oxford. His academic interest are about the social democracy, history of political ideologies (nationalism, identity and multiculturalism) and politics and government in Mexico (democratic transition, political parties, presidential and parliamentary system.
