Natalia Saltalamacchia Ziccardi has been a faculty member at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) since 2004 and is a member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers. From 2015 to 2018, she served as Director General of the Matías Romero Institute (IMR), the diplomatic academy of Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she also served as Editor-in-Chief of the Mexican Journal of Foreign Policy (Revista Mexicana de Política Exterior). During the same period, she was Vice President of the Mexican International Studies Association (AMEI).

She holds a Ph.D. in Latin American Studies from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, an M.A. in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University, and a B.A. in International Relations from ITAM. She was also a visiting student at Nuffield College, University of Oxford.

Her research focuses on Mexican foreign policy, with particular emphasis on Latin American international relations, regionalism, multilateralism, and human rights. She has published books, book chapters, and peer-reviewed articles in Spanish, English, French, and Portuguese on these topics in academic journals and edited volumes published in Mexico and abroad. She is co-editor, with Olga Pellicer and Guadalupe González, of Mexico and Multilateralism in the Twenty-First Century and co-editor, with Ana Covarrubias, of Human Rights in Foreign Policy: Six Latin American Cases. In recent years, her research has focused on migration diplomacy.

Since 2006, she has served on the Editorial Board of Foreign Affairs Latinoamérica. She has also participated in academic committees and research evaluation processes, as well as in the competitive examinations for recruitment and promotion within the diplomatic-consular branch of the Mexican Foreign Service. Throughout her career, she has been actively engaged in advancing the study, teaching, and institutional development of International Relations in Mexico.
